Mild steel wires

Mild steel (M.S.) wire is iron with 0.05% to 0.20% carbon. The carbon makes it stronger and harder than pure iron, and the more carbon it has, the harder it is. We make it hard (H.B.), half hard (H.H.B.) and soft (annealed), from 0.50 to 6.00 mm, and as binding and baling wire. It is used for fasteners, rivets, nails, springs, wire ropes, bales, wire mesh, weld mesh, fencing and needles.

H.B. wire (hard bright)

H.B. wire is low carbon mild steel wire, cold drawn through dies with no annealing after the last pass. This keeps the wire stiff and strong, and leaves the surface bright and clean.

H.H.B. wire (half hard bright)

H.H.B. wire is the same low carbon steel as H.B. wire, annealed after drawing to a half hard condition. It is softer and easier to shape, so it does not crack when nails, screws and rivets are cold headed from it.

Annealed wire

Annealed wire is mild steel wire that is heat treated after drawing to make it soft. It bends, twists and folds without cracking, and runs smoothly on high speed machines without breaking.

Binding wire

Binding wire is soft annealed mild steel wire used to tie rebar on building sites and for general bundling. We keep the size within close limits, because thin wire snaps when twisted and thick wire wastes metal on every tie.

Baling wire

Baling wire, also called bale wire, farm wire or soft wire, is annealed mild steel wire used to tie bales of cardboard, paper, textiles, aluminium and other material for recycling. It has even tensile strength and elongation, so it ties a strong knot with very little stretch.

High carbon wire

High carbon wire, also called spring steel wire, is made from steel with 0.36% to 0.90% carbon, compared with 0.05% to 0.20% in mild steel. It is patented (heat treated) and cold drawn to high strength, so it springs back to shape under load instead of staying bent.

G.I. wire

G.I. wire is mild steel wire with a zinc coating. The zinc protects the steel from rust, even where the coating gets scratched, which is why galvanised wire lasts outdoors and plain wire does not.
