Gauge ranges are the sizes we usually supply for these machines. If your machine manual gives a narrower range, follow the manual. All seven grades are made in these sizes. Stainless steel is quoted on request, so please check with us before ordering it. Our round book stitching wire also runs on LineOmatic, Bielomatik, Muller Martini, ECH Will, JoyDzign and other book stitching machines.

FAQ

Common questions

Will changing grade require me to reset the machine?

Not if you keep the same size. Changing the grade changes the metal and coating, not the thickness and width, so a machine set for 23 gauge will run any grade at 23 gauge without adjustment. Only a change of gauge needs a reset.

One point to note: brass and copper are softer than steel, so on an older machine the clinch may look slightly different. Try a sample spool first.

My wire keeps snagging in the middle of the reel. Is it the grade?

Almost never. Snagging in the middle of a reel is usually a winding problem, where a turn of wire has crossed over and sunk into the layer below. It tends to happen at the same point on every reel from that lot.

Check the reel for crossed turns, and make sure the spool sits straight in line with the wire guide.

Can I run flat stitching wire on a book stitching line?

Yes, and many binders prefer it. Flat wire grips a wider area of the spine than round wire, so it is less likely to cut through thin covers and the binding lasts longer. Your stitching head must be suitable for flat wire, so please check before ordering.

What spool size do automatic machines take?

Most fully automatic box stitchers in India take 15 or 25 kg reels with a 200 mm core. Semi automatic machines usually take 5 or 15 kg, and book stitching machines take 2 or 5 kg spools. Tell us your core size and we will supply to match.
